3D Printed Dry Fly

I found this on Thingiverse and it’s branded as the worlds first 3D printed Dry Fly. (although I have seen a printed dragon fly that was done before this) According to the designer Garr Larson it’s based on the popular Parachute Adams traditional tied fly. Now I doubt this will actually float being printed but I still though it would be a fun quick little project.  I actually printed this back in January but I totally forgot about it with all the other projects I have going on at once.

It’s a simple print and prints flat in two halves.

After printing I just heat up the wings with a lighter for a split second and bent them to shape.

Next the hook is glued into one of the halves.

After gluing the other halve together it’s ready for paint and sealing.

Here is the finished fly.

I definitely don’t think it will float with the epoxy sealer but I bet it will still catch some Bluegills Johnny Roaches at least.
