The Octoworm

This was just a quick design for an 8 legged worm that I came up with to once again try pushing the limits of 3D Printed Molds but this time I up the ante with an 8 piece mold.

This was the first design I came up with… I didn’t put a lot of thought into the actual bait design it was just something quick to test out an 8 piece mold.

This is the first mold design. It used rectangle alignment pins which turned out to be a bad idea.

The first injection produced this crazy palm tree looking bait because I didn’t use enough injection pressure… least it had eight legs.  This might actually work as a Ned rig bait though.

The second time worked great but green probably was a bad choice as it looks like a plant in the water.

I redid the design to have a smaller body and some shorter legs and added flipper extensions to the longer legs too.

I also went with a pin system on the mold pieces too and this works a lot better.

The little legs on this one really didn’t work that well and probably hindered the longer legs… I probably should have turned them around and pointed them down. Overall I’m not really impressed with either of the baits but the 8 piece mold worked well enough to call it a success.  I am however determined to catch a fish on this in the 2021 season so more pictures may eventually be uploaded.
