Rapala Shad Replics

These are some replica’s of a Rapala BX Jointed Shad Lure.

I found this Rapala BX Jointed Shad 6 lure in the bottom of the river while trout fishing, I think some one lost it on a snag as it had a bent out hook.  I figured I haven’t done a hard bait in awhile so I decided to replicate the design just for fun.

The initial design was done in Fusions Sculpt environment and I designed both a jointed and solid version.

Starting with the jointed version… these were printed with .08 layer heights so they came out pretty smooth (so to speak).

Construction started with the tail of the jointed version…

… and then main body. (these pictures are mainly for me so I can remember how I made the baits.)

Next it was onto the solid body version.

Here they are after gluing the two halves together.

This is the jointed version compared to the original Rapala lure.

After a little paint.

Most of the details where drawn on with a marker pen before clear coating with epoxy.

This is the picture I will be using for reference for the paint job of the solid version.

I’m very happy with how this paint job came out especially after not airbrushing any thing for awhile.

They both swam well after a little tuning… I just hope they catch some fish for the person I sent them too.
