Bluegill Glide Bait
This is my attempt at a glide bait. The main design is recycled from my Lipless Bluegill from awhile back. (it’s actually my third lure using this design… the other being a Soft Plastic version.) This is still in the prototype stage and may change over time.

I took the original design and added a joint, changed the fins a bit, and made a cut out for a tail.

Top view of the hinged joint area.

This is what the internals looks like.

The tail section hinges, retaining pin, and rear hook hanger can be seen here.

After the tail is glued together it is then assembled with the front part of hinges and other remaining internal parts before the front is also glued together.

Ready for a dunk test.

For the tail I just used fibers from a paint brush… not sure I like this so I might try a silicone tail on the next one.

Here is the completed bait after a quick paint job.

Clear coating this as a one piece bait was a nightmare so that will change on the next one.

Not my best work but it was good enough for testing. It swam OK I guess… maybe a little erratic but I tested it in a river so I need to retest it in some calmer water to be sure.

Here is is compared to it’s predecessors.

The next one with use different hinges so the separate pieces can be painted, clear coated , then assembled.

These are what i will use for hinges on the next one.

The New version ready for testing.
To be continued…

Hey there,
my name is Jan from Germany, and I just discovered your page. I’m already a huge fan. I also love crafting and fishing, and I’m currently working on getting my fishing license. I’ll be taking my first exam this Saturday (here in Germany, obtaining a fishing license is quite a strict and lengthy process).
I wanted to ask if it would be possible to get the STL files for some of your lures. I’ve seen your Thingiverse page, but I’m especially interested in building your Bluegill Glide Bait, which doesn’t seem to be listed there.
I do have some experience with CAD and have even designed a complete NAS casing myself, but I’m definitely not as skilled as you. If you’d be willing to share the files, I’d really appreciate it but I completely understand if you prefer to keep them private.
Also, I wasn’t quite able to figure out which materials you use for your baits. Sometimes you mention PLA, but in other cases I couldn’t find any information.
Best regards,
Jan
I haven’t released the Glide Bait yet as I am still testing and tweaking the design. As for my lures and molds I print everything in PLA+.
