Ribbed Stick Worm

STL’s for this lure are available for purchase from Cults3d.com

This is a ribbed version of a Stick Worms I’ve been messing around with. I loved the ribbed grubs I did before so I thought I’d give the failed stick bait the ribbed treatment too to try and revive it.

The design is basically just the same stick worm as before (first design) that has been ribbed and I added a little tail to it.

For testing purposes I again just started with a single cavity mold design.

Here is the finished PLA+ printed mold. I did print this one flat but the ribbed details came out perfect on this one, I’ll just have to see how the thin ribs in the mold hold up to the heat of the Plastisol over time.

The first injection… The flashing wasn’t too bad at all on this mold either.

Here is the first finished worm out of the mold.

I stretched it out a little to show the ribbed detail. There’s a tiny bit of flashing on the ribs but it came out pretty well overall.

It ended up being pretty flexible too.

This was designed to take a 5/0 (?) Worm hook.

The colors came out a little funny. It was suppose to be a gold color but it turned out more orange. The top plugs are out of the extruder to show how it should have looked. I’m wondering if the mold color bleed into the plastisol.

I added a little more gold powder but the next few are still a little orange. I’ll have to test different mold color to see if it really matters.

I also designed a six cavity core shot version but I want to test the worms first to make sure they are strong enough before printing this mold as each half will take about 14 hours.

Well I still haven’t tested these but I went ahead and printed the 6 cavity mold anyway. This is probably one of the largest printed molds I’ve done but it worked great so far. I haven’t tried core shots yet as it might be hard to get the mold to close after shooting the bodies… time will tell I guess.

Surprisingly there was hardly any flashing on the baits… I did get a few with dents but you can’t win them all I guess.

These are ugly as sin but it was just a bunch of different remelts I mixed together.  Good enough for testing anyway.

October 3, 2021 – Finally got around to testing these out my self.  Caught a few 1 pounders on a wacky rig… not how I designed them to be rigged but worked great anyway.

Not the biggest fish but it’s always nice to prove a design.

  1. What are the chances I can get a six mold from you? Do you sell these? Do you do custom designed lures?

    1. I don’t sell the actual molds I only sell the files so people can print their own. I haven’t uploaded this one yet as I haven’t been able to give it a proper test yet but as soon as I do it will be on my Cults3d page. I don’t offer custom work right now as I just don’t have the spare time.
