Triple Tip Grubs

STL’s for this lure are available for purchase from Cults3d.com

These are some triple tip grubs I made to target Crappie with this year. I’ve only caught a few crappie over the years but I saw online that these are suppose to be killer crappie baits so I thought I would try to make my own.

The grubs were designed around these jigs head i bought. I scored 50 of these jig head for about $2.50 in the clearance bin at a Walmart I just happened to stop at.

The mold is designed with two different sized grub to match the 1/16 and 1/8oz jig heads.  This is a smaller test mold to make sure the little tails would inject fully without any venting needed. (Most of my 3D printed molds really don’t require venting because they are not that precise as say an aluminum mold.

A started with some basic yellow ones to match the jig heads. They injected pretty clean with only minimal flashing and once cleaned up the finished baits if stretched out are about 3 and 3.5 inches long respectively.

Here they are rigged up on the jig heads.

Next I tried some duel injections to see how they would look… they came out pretty cool I think.

While not the best color choices they still came out great.

Also did some duel injection tails.

I call this color Purple Haze… They have a Paragon Effects Opaline Blue added to the purple.  It really doesn’t photograph that well but they look amazing in person.

The last color I did before the testing phase is your basic hot pink.

The next step is to print the full sized 12 cavity mold. (6 each size) The mold is a little unconventional with the weird runner but I wanted to fit a lot of grubs in a smaller foot print.

I ended up putting a whole kit together… here is the finished kit ready to rock…. They almost have that pastel feel to them.

Here is the 6 x 2 Cavity mold after printing.

This mold is one of the larger ones I’ve done and takes quite a few clamps to close but surprisingly they injected with very little flashing.

The testing went well but then again they are grubs and if you can’t catch something on a grub… nothing is biting.  The only thing I didn’t catch that I was actually targeting was Crappie,  I caught several of these small yellow perch…

so many Johnny Roaches…

two good size channel Catfish…  I lost one that was twice this size at least  (probably went well over 24″ long)  I was using ultralight setup and it got wrapped up in my motor and broke off.

Caught several halfway decent bass…

This sunny had almost the same coloring as the lure…

Besides the catfish I lost this was the big one of the day for me. Overall these triple tip grubs are a winner in my book and I’m definitely gonna keep that kit topped off.
