Soda Can Cutter

This is a tool for cutting soda cans that I found on Thingiverse designed by JH JEONG from Seoul, Korea.  I use a lot of cut up soda cans to protect work pieces from being damaged by the jaws of the chuck on my mini lathe. This tool makes it easy to get nice clean cuts and produce a nice stock of aluminum sheets to use for protection.

You basically just stick the can in the holder bottom first and tighten the knob to increase the depth of the blade into the can.

Then you just keep rotating the can and adjusting the depth of the blade with the knob a little at a time until the can is cut through.

There is also a support piece to put inside the can to support it for cutting the other side but it’s a little hard to use because it just drops to the bottom. I’m going to make a better one that support the cut side and protect your hand better too.

After that you just flip the holder over to get the perfect depth to cut the top off and repeat the cutting process.

When it’s done you have a nice piece of sheet aluminum that is roughly 8″ x 3.5″.

This is the new edge guard a made.

After cutting one end off the can the guard can be inserted into the open end to cover up the sharp edge.

It also supports the inside of the can about 3/4 of an inch so it gives you a sturdy support surface to be able to turn the can without wrinkling the aluminum.

When your done the Guard fits inside the tool for easy storage too.

While this worked I wanted to try something powered… Check out the Dremal Powered Soda Can Cutter.

    1. It’s not my design so unfortunately I can’t sell them but if you follow the link on the first picture you can ask the original design if he does or if you can pay someone to print one for you.

    1. Sorry this is not something I sell but you can try contacting the original designer on Thingiverse.
