UV Light Lure Charger

This is a UV light charger for glow in the dark lures.  It’s a pretty simple design I just drop the lure in the tube and step on the button for a few seconds before making a few casts.

I started with a 2″ clear acrylic tube that I had laying around. This will be the main chamber that allows the lure to slide in and out without the hooks catching on anything.

I then cut a section off of the UV Light strip that I originally bought for the UV Resin Lure Drying Rack  and super glued one end to the outside of the top of the tube and then wrapped the strip around the rest of the tube.

Next I soldered on wires to the end of the UV strip.

Those wires were then super glued to the bottom of the tube to keep the strip in place.

After measuring the outside diameter of the tube with the UV strip attached I jumped over to Solidworks and designed a quick housing to hold everything.

The tube assembly now just drops down into the housing. (I may have to redo the housing at one point because it has thin walls and was printed in PLA so it might deform if left in the sun too long.)

For power I’m just using a cigarette lighter plug so it can plug right into my boat.

The wiring is pretty simple… one end of the plug gets wired to the lead on the UV strip and the other end goes through the switch then to the other side of the UV Strip.

The top funnel part is just held on with (2) 2-56 button head screws and this secures the tube in place within the housing and helps easily guide the lure into the tube.

The bottom of the housing is left open so water doesn’t collect in the bottom.

The plugs cord can then wrap around housing and the plug stuffed inside for compact storage when not in use.

I quick GIF of it in action….

… and the results.
